Broadbent Madeira 1996 Colheita
Tinta Negra Mole, Complexa, Tinta da Madeira and Triunfo | Alc: 19% – Madeira, Sweet
Terras Madeirenses, Portugal
Broadbent Madeira 1996 Colheita – Gorgeous and sweet, with dried orange peel and toasted-hazelnut flavors, wrapped in caramel. The advantage of an aged Madeira like this is its lightness and texture, and the drier finish from the oxidation and the acidity.
Very figgy nose with lots of sweet toffee and caramel, powerful yet elegant, much more complex than expected. Medium sweetness with perfectly balanced acidity, nice caramel with toffee, almonds, walnuts, and some roasted aromas of coffee and toasted bread, ending with a very smooth and long vinous finish.
Beautiful with cheese or nuts or caramel desserts.
“The 1996 Colheita was aged in oak casks for five years and then bottled. It has a very well-defined bouquet of dried figs, lemon rind, dried herbs and a touch of dates that soar from first opening and continue to bloom over several hours. The palate is fresh and lively. This is a more feminine Colheita with a crisp thread of acidity: lovely touches of marmalade and orange rind counterbalancing its viscous texture. It exhibits impressive cohesion and linearity to create a Colheita that has intent and purpose, full of energy and race.” 93 Points – The Wine Advocate
