L. Aubry Fils Champagne Premier Cru Rosé NV
45% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier | Alc: 12.5% – Rich and Creamy
Jouy Les Reims, Champagne, France
Winemaker’s notes:
Aubry Fils Champagne Premier Cru non-vintage rosé also comes entirely from a single year, although this is obviously not stated on the label. It’s a blended rosé, usually composed of about 60 percent chardonnay and 25 percent pinot noir, together with 15 percent of red wine made from old meunier vines in a parcel called Les Noues, in Jouy-lès-Reims.
Critical Acclaim:
“(45% chardonnay, 40% pinot noir and 15% still pinot meunier, all from 2010; disgorged in June, 2013): Pale orange. Powerfully scented aromas of cherry pit, raspberry and potpourri, with exotic Asian spice and incense qualities building in the glass. Wound up and tightly focused, with spicy red and dark berry flavors and tangy citrus zest and floral pastille qualities gaining power on the long, mineral-driven finish.” 92 Pts – Stephen Tanzer’s IWC
“One of the highlights among these new releases, the NV Brut Rose Premier Cru is rich, expressive and totally delicious. Here it is the radiance of the 2009 vintage that speaks loudest. Layers of perfumed, succulent fruit flow effortlessly to the creamy, layered finish. Aubry’s Rose is 40% Pinot Noir, 35% Chardonnay, 12% Pinot Meunier and 13% still old-vine Meunier. This is another striking wine from Aubry just bursting with class. I loved it.
Aubry crafts some of the most exciting and distinctive wines in Champagne. This small, family-run estate is one of the few properties in the region to use Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Fromenteau – traditional grapes seldom seen today. There is a purity to the fruit at Aubry that is striking. The wines typically see very low dosage of just 2-3 grams. The truth is these wines don’t need much. Readers should do whatever they can to taste these unique, compelling Champagnes.” 93 Pts – The Wine Advocate
“Pretty strawberry, ripe cherry, lemon curd and pastry notes mix in this firm rose, offering lip-smacking acidity, with smoke and chalk notes on the finish.” 90 Pts – Wine Spectator
