Bordeaux Without the Drama
The Left Bank’s finest overachievers — serious wines, sensible prices
Great Bordeaux doesn’t require a famous label, a lengthy explanation, or a moment of financial reckoning at the checkout. It requires good terroir, a capable producer, and a vintage that delivered. This pack has all three — four times over.
From a Saint-Émilion that punches well above its appellation fee, to a Listrac hiding in plain sight on the Médoc’s quieter side, to two Bordeaux Supérieurs that prove the humble classification can produce genuinely excellent wine — this is the Left Bank without the mythology. Just the wine.
The Bottles
Château la Chapelle 2020 Saint-Émilion
Saint-Émilion · Merlot-dominant · 2020
Highly rated, modestly priced, and deeply annoying to its more expensive neighbors
Saint-Émilion’s Merlot-dominant soils gave the 2020 a plushness that its price absolutely does not deserve. Dark cherry, a whisper of cedar, and a finish that makes you check the label twice to confirm what you paid. You read it correctly. Drink it with something worthy of the occasion — which, it turns out, is any occasion at all.
Château Cleyrac 2020 Bordeaux Supérieur
Bordeaux Supérieur · Merlot · 2020
The wine that makes Tuesday feel like a special occasion
Fresh, fruit-forward and built for immediate pleasure. Juicy blackcurrant and plum with tannins so supple they’re practically apologetic. The 2020 vintage was generous and warm, and Cleyrac caught every bit of it. No ceremony required. No apology necessary.
Château Saransot-Dupré 2019 Listrac-Médoc
Listrac-Médoc · Cabernet Sauvignon · 2019
The Médoc’s best kept secret — finally out of hiding
Listrac sits inland from the glamorous Médoc communes, which is precisely why nobody talks about it, and why the prices haven’t caught up with the quality. Saransot-Dupré makes serious wine from old vines — Cabernet Sauvignon with genuine backbone, dark fruit, and a savory minerality that lingers long after the glass is empty. The 2019 vintage is exceptional here. This bottle should cost considerably more than it does.
Château de la Vieille Tour 2019 Bordeaux Supérieur
Bordeaux Supérieur · Merlot · 2019
The reliable one. Every great pack needs one.
Not every bottle needs to be a revelation — sometimes you need something consistently excellent, well-made, and ready whenever you are. Soft and approachable with ripe black cherry and subtle oak, the generous 2019 vintage shows in every sip. The anchor of the pack, and arguably the most useful bottle in it.
