Three-Pack · Vintage Port · Virtual Pop-Up Shop 2026

The Class of 2017

Three houses. One legendary vintage. No wrong answers.

The 2017 Douro vintage was exceptional — warm, concentrated, perfectly structured. Every serious house declared it. Not every house made it equally.

This pack takes three of Port’s most celebrated estates — Quinta do Noval, Taylor Fladgate, and Fonseca — all working from the same extraordinary raw material, and asks the most interesting question in wine: what does terroir, tradition and winemaking philosophy do when the vintage gives everyone the same exceptional hand to play? Open all three on the same evening. Pour them side by side. The differences are as illuminating as the similarities, and both are considerable.

The Bottles

1

Quinta do Noval 2017 Vintage Port

Douro · Vintage Port · 2017 · Quinta do Noval · Historic schist terraces

The one with the deepest roots — literally and historically.

Quinta do Noval has been farming its extraordinary terraced vineyards above Pinhão since the 18th century, and that history shows in the wine. The 2017 is dense, inky and intensely concentrated — blackberry, dark plum, iron and a tannic structure that is very much still knitting itself together. Of the three in this pack, Noval is the one to cellar longest. It will also be the most talked about when you finally open it. Start here and let it breathe while you move to the others. Return to it an hour later and watch what it has become.

2

Taylor Fladgate Classic Vintage Porto 2017

Douro · Vintage Port · 2017 · Taylor Fladgate · Precision and structure

The classicist. All precision, restraint and inevitable greatness.

Taylor Fladgate has been making Vintage Port since 1692, and the house style is unmistakable — linear, structured, elegant in a way that prioritises longevity over immediate gratification. The 2017 is all dark fruit held in careful tension with firm, fine tannins and a backbone that signals this wine has decades ahead of it. Tasted next to Noval, the contrast is immediately apparent: where Noval is brooding and powerful, Taylor is precise and refined. Neither approach is wrong. Both are extraordinary.

3

Fonseca 2017 Vintage Port

Douro · Vintage Port · 2017 · Fonseca · Warmth and generosity

The generous one — opulent, warm and completely irresistible.

If Noval is brooding and Taylor is precise, Fonseca is the warm embrace at the end of the evening — rich, generous, deeply fruited, with a lushness that is pure southern Douro character. Dark cherry, plum preserve, cocoa and a sweetness that is forward and welcoming rather than austere and patient. Of the three, Fonseca is the most approachable now, which makes it the ideal closer: after the intellectual exercise of comparing Noval and Taylor, Fonseca reminds you that great Port, above all else, is meant to be enjoyed. End here. Linger. The evening has earned it.
